Today I have a review on the Knob Creek Kentucky Straight Bourbon Whiskey. This is a terrific whiskey at a price that is very difficult to beat, I found it on the shelf at my go-to liquor store for only $27.99.
Starting off with the Nose, I picked up some nice charred oak smells, and maybe a bit of charcoal that hung in the background. The smell had a touch of sweetness to it that was extremely inviting. My girlfriend, Angie, joined me on this one, and she agreed on most of the nose, however she picked up some berry smells on the nose that I couldn’t pick out.
Onto the Palate:
Starts off with flavors of toasted wood, maple syrup, and maybe some burnt marshmallow giving it some sweetness. The mid palate is has brown sugar notes and more sweet flavors, which some cinnamon spice that leads into a lingering finish with a little more spice. After adding water, the sweetness really explodes, bringing out the flavors of vanilla, brown sugar and syrup, moves into a little bit quicker of a finish, but that shows more vanilla and cinnamon. Angie said she picked up some caramel notes on the finish in addition to the other flavors, and agreed it shortened when a touch of water was added.
Overall, this bourbon gets an 85/100, very smooth and a terrific example of a bourbon, and not overly complex. If you just want a good sipping bourbon, or you want to introduce a friend to the world of great whiskey, this is a terrific way to start.
