W.L. Weller Argonaut Single Barrel Select

We love single barrel selections here at Mile High Bourbon and Rye. The Single Barrel selections are always unique, and it’s fun tasting what a group of people or a single person decided was the best flavor and selected that particular barrel. So we do our best to try and find them and get them to give them a try. Well Argonaut Liquors in Denver has a single barrel of the WL Weller, so we got ourselves a bottle! Let’s jump into the review.

W.L. Weller Argonaut Single Barrel

Color:
This bottle pours with the amber color that most bourbons tend to have, and it is a clean, clear whiskey. However, there is a touch of a red color when held up to the light.

Nose:
The first notes that you get on the nose are dark cherry and worn in leather, followed by oak and tobacco with hints of sweet brown sugar. Seriously inviting, the smell is terrific on this.

Palate:
The sip was sweet from the start all the way through. The start of the sip comes in with some dark fruit flavors and soft wheat notes that move into what can only really be described as tobacco and oak on the mid-palate. That mid-palate moves into dark cherry and brown sugar finish with hints of vanilla and lingers in your mouth for a very long time.

With Water Nose:
The oak and leather come through a little more, but the dark fruits/cherry notes are still the main scents we picked up.

With Water Palate:
Soft wheat flavors became a little bit more apparent, but those sweet flavors are still a big part of the start. The mid palate is almost identical, sweet tobacco and oak. The finish becomes a little less sweet, but the dark fruit and cherry flavors become bigger, and those brown sugar and vanilla notes mingle in as the sip leaves your mouth, with the flavors lingering for quite a while even with the water added, although not quite as long.

Angela gave this bottle an 89/100.
Zach gave it a 93/100.

Overall, this bottle earned a 91/100. A very unique bottle, the dark fruit flavors were spectacular working with the oak, brown sugar, and vanilla notes, making this an amazingly enjoyable sip. Stop in to Argonaut and pick one up, it is definitely worth getting.
