Another Gin review here, today it is one from the Islay Region of Scotland. The Botanist Islay Gin is crafted with nine of the traditional aromatics, and is augmented with 22 botanicals local to the region. Claiming to be the only gin from the Islay Region, I haven’t seen any others so I believe that claim. Let’s jump right into it.
Starting off with the nose, right away there are notes of juniper and pine, as is tradition. There is some citrus notes, orange peel and lemon zest, as well as floral smells. Angie picked up some berry like sweetness also.
The palate on this starts off with heavy citrus notes, some juniper, but lighter than a lot of gins. Some cinnamon, mint, basil, lavender, pine, and all of those mingle together and coat the mouth. There is a sweetness that is around for the whole sip. All the floral fresh botanical notes intermingle with each other perfectly.
Now for the ratings.
I give this an 84/100, extremely well crafted and delicious.
Angie’s rating is an 86/100, because it is very easy to drink, with great flavors.
Overall the Botanist Islay Gin gets an 85/100. We both loved it, and would recommend it to anyone who likes gin, or just wants to try something unique.
