Another Saint Patrick’s day has come and past, and we celebrated with an Irish Whiskey. Evan came in to sample this one with us as well. After a large, tasty, and filling dinner of Corned Beef and Cabbage with mashed potatoes, we decided to have the glass of Teeling. It is non-chill filtered, and finished aging for 6 months in rum barrels. Let’s jump into it.
The nose of the Teeling starts off with some wood notes, and vanilla spice. The vanilla and spice is a little reminiscent of rum, obviously influenced heavily from the finish in the rum casks.
Moving onto the palate, this whiskey has very little heat to it, making it very approachable. There are some nice undertones of spice, and that rum influence comes through a little bit as well. The finish is a little short, but still enjoyable.
Adding a little splash of water makes the wood flavors really start to come through, and the spices and rum influence come up, but it also brings out that distinct Irish whiskey flavor. The sip really coats the entire mouth, leading into a silky and lingering finish with some wood undertones.
Let’s get to each of our ratings.
Evan: 86/100
Zach: 85/100
Angie: 84/100
Overall: 85/100
This whiskey also earned a Double Gold at the San Francisco World Spirits Competition in 2015. A tasty St. Patrick’s treat this was indeed.
