Stranahan’s Diamond Peak Batch #6

Today, we have another Colorado whiskey, perhaps one of the more famous/popular ones. We have the Stranahan’s Diamond Peak, specifically the 6th batch. Now, when Stranahan’s first started it was one of my favorite whiskeys. Now this was also when I started drinking whiskey, and it really kinda gave me that interest, which is why I started drinking more, and therefore why I started this website. So let’s jump into the review on their Diamond Peak Batch #6.

On the nose, this whiskey has notes of cocoa, nuts, brown sugar, some dried fruit and a little banana. There is also some very nice oak barrel notes that are around, showing off some of the age. Angie says it smells like a day full of baking in a glass, which I would agree with. Very pleasant and inviting.

Moving onto the palate, this whiskey is a little sweet up front, some notes of cocoa and brown sugar, and some vanilla and spice. It is a softer whiskey, easy to drink, but still full bodied. The oak influence is there from start to finish, adding to that smoothness, and giving some great flavors. The finish lingers for a while with some dried fruit like prunes.

Adding a splash of water to the glass opens it up immediately on the nose. The cocoa really shines through, reminding Angie of the Mexican chocolate cookies that her Grandma used to buy. There are still some notes of the nuts, brown sugar, and dried fruit, and the oak scents are still around. The palate also opens a ton, the sweet brown sugar and cocoa pop right off the start. The mid palate is full of vanilla and spice, and it still is a full bodied sip. The oak influence also becomes a little bit more noticeable, but not overpowering, and the finish is a little sweeter with the dried fruit, while still lingering for a bit.

Ratings time, so here are the scores we give to the Stranahan’s Diamond Peak.

Angie: 90/100

Zach: 89/100

Overall: 90/100

This is a delicious whiskey, without a ridiculous price. Sitting on the shelf for a price around $65-$70 dollars, this won’t be an everyday drinker for a lot of people, but definitely one worth picking up.
