Snitching Lady American Single Malt

Located in South Park, Colorado, which is in fact a real place, sits a town called Fairplay. (Which the show is very loosely based on.) On the main strip, you will find in an old bank building, the Snitching Lady Distillery. Inspired by old backwoods Moonshine, the folks in the distillery have a true passion for making excellent spirits, and fantastic cocktails in the bar.

Newly released is this American Single Malt whiskey. Single malts are quickly becoming a popular style in the US, and Colorado Craft distillers are, in my opinion, some of the best in the country at doing it. Snitching Lady stands tall with their American single malt. There is a lot of grain influence that shines beautifully through each sip. I highly recommend trying this one at the distillery, but be warned that you will probably be taking a bottle home with you as well.

Mashbill:

100% Malted Barley.

Age:

3 and a Half Years

Proof:

90 Proof (45% ABV)

In the Glass:

Color:

Pale straw, and as clear as the rocky mountain snow melt that helps create this whiskey,

Without Water:

Nose:

Chocolate immediately jumps out of the glass, dark chocolate almost like the more bitter baker’s chocolate. This is accompanied with notes of sweet bread and vanilla, almost vanilla icing-esque.

Palate:

Sweet vanilla notes hit the front of the palate to start, moving quickly into a mid palate full of rich, dark chocolate. It is almost chewy, and really showcases the malt flavors.

Finish:

Again, dark baking chocolates really seem to be the flavor. I personally do not usually like using the word smooth, but it fits for this as it’s got a velvety texture, and lasts a long time. It’s a great balance of sweet from the wood and dark chocolate and malt.

With Water:

Nose:

There is some toasted sugars/marshmallow notes that show up, with vanilla that comes out more. The chocolate still shines.

Palate:

Surprisingly dryer right off the bat, with that toasted almost burnt sugars coming through. Not overly dry though, and the caramelized sugars lead excellently into that same chocolaty mid palate.

Finish:

Dark cocoa/baker’s dark chocolate again. It still has a velvety mouth feel, and doesn’t lose a lot of length even with the water added.

Final Thoughts:

It’s always a great day when you can make it up into the mountains. There is plenty of hiking, great views, and crisp cool mountain air around Fairplay. At the end of a beautiful day in the mountains, stopping into the Snitching Lady is a perfect way to cap it off. With spectacular cocktails made from all their spirits, you are sure to find a drink you will enjoy.

The American Single Malt continues the fun of being in the mountains. Maybe it’s just because I first had it up there, but the flavor absolutely makes me feel like I am sitting in the crisp mountain air, enjoying a beverage crafted by people who clearly take this process seriously. Be sure not to miss out on this whiskey, and I highly recommend trying it at the distillery.
