The folks at Mystic Mountain are pretty consistently putting out a good product. As flavored whiskeys really continue to grow as a category, MM joined the movement and put out a couple new flavors; White Peach and Peanut Butter Cup.
Outlaw White Peach:
Color: Pale golden straw.
Nose: Immediately can smell the peach right away. It overtakes the nose, overpowering most everything else. However, it’s not a fake peach smell, really is like cutting into a fresh peach.
Palate: A creamy and thick mouthfeel with some vanilla notes, and of course peaches.
Finish: Long with some added hints of cinnamon, but remarkably this whole sip even through the finish is not overly sweet, just very much peach. If you are looking for a peach cocktail base, or just really enjoy peach flavored products, this bottle is excellent.
Overall: 90/100
Outlaw Peanut Butter Cup:
Color: Dark Amber/Copper
Nose: If you have ever had Reese’s Puffs cereal, this will immediately transport you back to pouring the milk on the bowl and that aroma that immediately comes from it. It’s like Reese’s for Breakfast, but whiskey, and for after dinner.
Palate: Plenty of sweet, bourbon undertones, and a thick , creamy mouthfeel with rich chocolate and sweet peanut butter. A lot more going on than just a peanut butter flavor bomb.
Finish: It leaves your mouth with the same feeling of the Reese’s puffs cereal. Again though, it’s not just a sugar bomb, it has a full body to it.
Overall: 94/100 (Full disclosure, I love peanut butter cups, and was a huge fan of that cereal as a kid. This is definitely a hit for me)
Whiskey Flavors are here to stay, the key will be finding the ones that are really well done and not just sweet and syrupy. Mystic Mountain did, in my opinion, a good job adding great flavors without a ton of syrup.
