Leopold Brother’s is a staple when it comes to Colorado Distilleries. Their liqueurs and flavored whiskeys are absolutely some of the most popular Colorado Spirits, and they consistently produce a quality product. We were very excited to get to try their bourbon, so let’s jump right in.
Color: Reddish, light copper.
Nose: Malted barley is very apparent right off the bat, rich, roasted, and chocolate. Some notes of rye spice, pepper, straw, and a bit of fruity notes as well.
Palate: Rich, thick, and full bodied, the bourbon has a creamy mouth feel with a lot of that malted barley again. Layered, spicy and showing some sweet notes that all compliment each other well. There is a distinct toffee flavor as well that comes through.
Finish: Roasted malt and baking chocolate that lingers for a very long time. Silky smooth and clean.
With Water:
Nose: Some distinct cola notes come through, as well as even more malt. Less of the fruit though is noticeable.
Palate: The pepper and crisp pear come out more, but it still has a remarkably creamy and full bodied feel. Plenty of cinnamon and pepper that compliment some cola flavors as well.
Finish: Still extremely long and smooth, a little bit sweeter on the finish with some cherry notes.

Leopold’s definitely likes the malty profile, and that shines through on this bottle a lot. A bit reminiscent of their American Whiskey, but with some more layers and complexity.
