Time for another Single Barrel Select Bourbon, and today we have the Knob Creek Barrel from Total Beverage. Let’s jump into it right away.
The nose on this whiskey has a lot of toasted oak which gives off some nutty aromas, and a good amount of vanilla and caramel. There is a bit of a scent of alcohol, but the sweet notes make this an extremely inviting whiskey on the nose.
The palate starts off with some toffee, a touch of oak, vanilla and a hint of maple. The end is the only point where the 120 proof becomes apparent, as the heat hits a bit. The regular Knob Creek has some more spice than this one does, but the Single Barrel has some cinnamon notes. There would really be no showing of the heat if not for the finish.
Adding the few drops of water, the nose has more sweetness and less of the alcohol smell. The sip really opens up with the water, the toffee sweetness really comes out, and the cinnamon spiciness really shines through as well. The sip is complex, with sweetness and spiciness, vanilla, caramel, toffee and cinnamon. The finish lingers for a while after finishing the sip. I highly recommend this bourbon, especially with an ice cube, or a couple drops of water.
