Breckenridge Total Beverage Select Single Barrel Bourbon

Breckenridge Distillery makes some delicious products, and it has become one of our favorite bourbons from Colorado, especially for the price. Total Beverage in Thornton on 104th has a Single Barrel select from Breckenridge, and since single barrels are one of our favorites, we decided we had to try it.

Breckenridge Total Beverage Select Single Barrel Bourbon

Color: This bourbon pours a clear golden amber.

Nose: Vanilla, oak, dark roasted coffee, molasses and tobacco all are apparent on the nose of this bottle. The oak is very noticeable, and this is quite an inviting nose.

Palate: This bourbon has notes of leather, a little bit of tobacco and caramel. The front has a touch of heat of on it, but the entire sip is full bodied and rich, with a sweet caramel finish that lingers for a while after the sip is finished.

Of course, as always, we added just a few drops of water to the glass.

With water the nose really remains almost the same. A little more mellow, but not a difference that is really apparent.

The sip however, really opens up, starting with the heat on the front disappearing entirely. It is replaced with some sweetness that stays through the whole sip, with dark mid palate flavors of tobacco that give way into a vanilla, molasses, and oaky finish. It is extremely enjoyable. The dark flavors lead us to believe that barrel had a heavier char on it than the original Breckenridge bourbon.

Ratings:
Angela: 86/100
Zach: 88/100
Overall: 87/100

The original Breck bourbon we rated came in at an 84, Total Beverage definitely selected a good barrel with this one, edging out the original Breck. At the same price as the original on their shelf, this is definitely one of the best values.
