Today I have a review on the Breckenridge Bourbon from Colorado. This bottle is a great price, $39.99 on the shelf from Total Beverage, and you can find it here. Made with snowmelt from the Rocky Mountains, this is a very good example of what Colorado is capable of producing.
The nose on this whiskey starts off with some sweet corn, but you pick up some oak notes from it and a bit of rye, like a rye loaf is baking somewhere in the distance that you can just smell.
On the palate, you get a good amount of sweetness from the corn that hangs around for the entire sip. It quickly adds in honey flavors, and some nice vanilla cream that gives way into a bit of rye spice and toasted oak. The finish is short but very smooth, so you don’t get a lot of burn in the back of the throat or that alcohol warmth down the chest. After adding a small amount of water, the honey and vanilla become a lot more apparent, and that corn sweetness is a lot more prevalent on the end, as the rye spice drops off and fades into just a little bit of background noise.
I would definitely recommend this bourbon without any water or ice melted into it if you prefer a more complex bourbon with a nice rye profile on it. The corn sweetness is definitely apparent the entire time this bourbon is on your palate, which is not only enjoyable for regular bourbon drinkers, but makes it approachable for people who don’t drink it too often.
Overall, I give the Breckenridge Bourbon an 84 out of 100. For the price that you pick it up at, it is very difficult to beat, so I will absolutely recommend this bottle to everyone.
Amazing Blog. Really enjoyed reading.
