Blanton’s Bourbon makes it’s claim as the original Single Barrel, so for the most part, you will never get two of the same whiskey. Argonaut Wine and Liquor in Denver selected a barrel specifically for their store, and we were lucky enough to get a bottle to try.
This particular Blanton’s bottle is from Barrel Number 66 on Rick No. 13, and Warehouse H, where all Blanton’s is aged.
Proof: 96 (46.5 ABV)
Color: Copper and crystal clear
Nose: Vanilla is strong on the nose, along with some earthy notes, a bit of citrus, brown sugar, and raw honey. It is extremely inviting
Palate: Very soft on the front, but full of vanilla, earthy undertones, tobacco and creamy on the mid palate. The back of the mouth is full of citrus, orange peel/zest, and lingers for a while with oaky notes after the sip is finished. The sip is ridiculously smooth and creamy, and coats the entire palate.
With Water:
Nose: More earthy and tobacco notes come through, but the honey and vanilla are still very apparent. The citrus fades a bit, but is still noticeable.
Palate: The palate didn’t change a whole lot, still soft on the front but the back end with the citrus comes through a bit more. That coating creamy vanilla is still the majority of the mid palate, and the oak notes are still very present on the back end. The finish does not linger quite as long with the water, but is still very smooth.
A mellow and sweet bourbon, that is pleasing on both the nose and the palate with flavors that compliment each other very well.
