Another excellent whiskey coming out of Denver’s Bear Creek Distilery-their limited 2020 release of the Wheat Whiskey finished in Odell Bull Proof stout is an All Colorado Collaboration that has all of the easy drinking sweet notes of a 100% wheat whiskey with some heavier malt and chocolate notes from the stout that tie together terrifically.
Color: Dark brown tint but not cloudy.
Nose: Malty Chocolate notes right off the bat, complimented with sweet honey bread and some dried fruits.
Palate: A sweet bread front, moves into a mid palate of honey covered dried fruits.
Finish: The chocolatey and malt notes from the stout really come out at the end, lingering for a while on the palate after the sip is gone. There is not any alcohol burn on the sip.
With Water:
Nose: The dried fruit notes and the sweet bread really come out more, taking over the chocolate malt notes which lose a bit of the nose. Much more of the whiskey and less of the stout.
Palate: Again more of the wheat bread comes out on the palate, moving into a mid that has a little bit more honey and little less dried fruit.
Finish: Heavy Dark chocolate notes with complimenting notes of roasted malt, but a much shorter finish with a little bit of water.

Bear Creek continues to create a terrific whiskey, and their collaboration with Odell’s Brewery here created a perfect marriage of stout beer flavors and wheat whiskey.
