Art of the Spirits based out of Aurora Colorado has been putting out some good whiskey adorned with beautiful artwork. The folks over at Total Beverage have selected a single barrel of the Easy Elegance Rye whiskey. Coming in at 127.65 proof, this cask strength offering is only available via Total Beverage.
Richard, the founder of Art of the Spirits, has been at a couple of events we have been at, and in talking with him he very clearly takes his whiskey and art seriously, living up to the name on his bottles. He offered us this bottle to put a review on the website, along with an offer to save some for our readers who wish to purchase a bottle for themselves. We’ll include a link to the bottle and the code at the end of the review.
Color: Ruby/Amber, light and clear. Angie says there is a lightish red (isn’t there a name for that?) quality to it.
Nose: Lots of rye grain on the nose, a bit of baked goods notes and some light floral notes. Zach gets a lot more of a bread and toasted note, where Angie picks up a cream soda note on the nose.
Palate: This is a sweet, toasty, and spicy sip that has an almost effervescent quality to it. There are some fruit notes mixed with cinnamon, that tingle the tongue. It makes your mouth water and definitely makes you want to take another sip. Easy and Elegant are definitely perfect words to describe the whiskey.
Finish: A little short and a little light, but easy drinking and does not show its proof at all. There is a lot of cinnamon, pepper, and hints of vanilla. The finish makes this whole whiskey extremely approachable for anyone.
With Water:
Nose: A lot more baked goods come out with the water added. There are also notes of orange blossom that come out.
Palate: Notes of fruit and citrus with toasted oak come out. Angie gets some toasted coconut with it as well. Sweet honey moves into spicy cinnamon, with lots of layers to the sip overall.
Finish: With the water the finish actually lingered for longer, with a much drier taste as well. Some cinnamon on the finish adds a nice spice to the end.
