Black Box Whiskey

Black Box WhiskeyBlack Box Whiskey
Age: 6 Years
American Oak Barrels
40% ABV (80 Proof)
(Some rumors surround this whiskey, that it is a Canadian, even possibly Black Velvet. We can not verify any of this)

We have officially reached it. The point in time when whiskey is now served in a box. You did in fact read that correctly. Black Box has ventured outside the world of wines to add Vodka, Tequila, and Whiskey to their offered products, still claiming a high quality product in an easy and convenient package. With no glass, the black box is easier to take with you to multiple places, making it extremely versatile as well. The last question is; how good is the whiskey inside?

Color: Copper/bronze and clear. It is much darker than either of us expected.

Nose: The whiskey is extremely sweet on the nose, sugar cane, caramel, and sweet oak notes come through, with hints of dark fruit.

Palate: Extremely light and easy drinking, the sip is as sweet as the nose is. Surprisingly, the middle of the palate gets some rye spices that come through, and add a bit of complexity. There isn’t a ton to the sip, but it is certainly not unpleasant.

Finish: Short and sweet, and very smooth.

With water:

Nose: Still sweet, and full of sugar/caramel notes but the dark fruit fades away entirely.

Palate: A lot more spice comes through on the palate, a significantly noticeable amount. Still very light.

Finish: Somehow even a shorter finish than before, but still sweet and smooth.

Ratings:
Angie: 80/100
Zach: 78/100
Overall: 79/100

This surprised both of us. We were not sure what to expect from a box of whiskey, but we were both pleasantly surprised. Now we would not recommend this to drink as a nice sipper, but we did make some mixed drinks with it, and it really does well as long as the mixers aren’t too sweet. (Unless of course that’s what you enjoy.)

Enjoying what my mother in law got me for Christmas. Was very pleased with the oaky/caramel flavor and finish!
