I received this bottle as a gift a little while ago, and I had my eye on it for a while because of how unique it sounded. It was completely worth picking up.
Jefferson’s takes fully aged Kentucky Bourbon, and sets it on a voyage, on a ship that crosses the equator 4 different times, stopping at 5 continents and more than 30 ports. The story behind this bourbon is as unique as the bourbon itself.
The nose on this one smells like you would want a nice bourbon to smell, the oak is present, a bit of vanilla, raisin, and then a hint of sea salt that you can pick up. That hint of sea salt and brine is terrific.
Onto the palate, sweet and spicy combine right away on the front, making a complex start. The mid palate has some more of the sweetness, with brown sugar and a little vanilla. The rye spiciness comes comes back for the finish, with the oak flavor lingering, and the brine sea salt flavors sneak in. The finish makes me feel like I am out on the ocean with the sea air blowing and salt water spray all around me. Adding a touch of water really brings out the sea salt smell, and then mellows the spicy rye notes on the palate, making the sweetness jump out. The salt on the finish is downplayed with the water added as well.
Overall I give this bourbon an 88/100, very unique and very delicious. I definitely recommend it.
