Glenmorangie Signet
For this review, we have one of the best bottles we have ever had the pleasure of tasting. This bottle, is a blend of the oldest whiskeys that Glenmorangie has to offer, the oldest in the blend being distilled over 30 years ago when malting was still done on site. It is also the only Blended Scotch that Glenmorangie offers. While Glenmorangie is pretty much tight-lipped on the exact process, they do say that the whiskey is made from “chocolate” barley malt, and matured in “designer” casks. Whatever their process, this is a rich, full, and delicious whiskey that you should absolutely pick up if you have the chance.
Evan, who has joined us before on reviews, brought this bottle from his personal collection to try, and he sat in on the review with us as well.
Color: Poured into the glass, this scotch is a deep, rich amber color.
Nose: The scotch has a very full nose of chocolate, barley, and oak. There is a hint of sherry, and a touch of sweet citrus. Extremely inviting, and very exciting.
Palate: The sip is silky smooth, ridiculously so. Starting off with some toasted nut, it is full of huge chocolate sweetness with bitter mocha that work together perfectly to create a complex flavor that isn’t too sweet. Angela described it as “licking melted chocolate right off a toasted barrel.” The finish was smooth and lingered for a very long time. There are hints of citrus and spice on the finish, but the chocolate and mocha are the major parts of the flavor, all the way from start to finish.
With water: You really think we would add water to this?? Well we did add a couple drops, as is tradition. The water did not make a real noticeable difference in the whiskey, it is huge on it’s own and doesn’t change with the little bit of water. We would not dare add any more to the glass.
Scores:
Angela:99/100
Evan:97/100
Zach:96/100
Overall: 98/100
As was said at the beginning of this review, this is one of the best bottles we have ever tried. Not too sweet, extremely complex and rich while being as smooth as silk. If you find yourself in a position to get a bottle, don’t pass it up.
